Teddy came to us missing part of his eye. The lens had detached — not from disease, not from an accident — but from being hit on the back of the head too many times by someone who was supposed to care for him.
When he arrived, he was scared of hands. Flinched at sudden movements. Wouldn't make eye contact with his one remaining good eye.
That was then.
Today, Teddy is one of the most affectionate dogs in our sanctuary. He greets every visitor with a full-body wiggle. He sleeps on soft blankets. He eats warm food. And he will never, ever be hit again.
Part of his eye had to be surgically removed. He'll need ongoing veterinary care for the rest of his life. But what Teddy gives back in love — in trust, after everything that was done to him — is more than we could ever measure.
Indy was hit by a car. It broke his back. And then nobody helped him.
For days, he dragged himself by his front paws. His back legs wouldn't work. He pulled his body across the ground, leaving a trail of blood behind him. Flies were eating his open wounds. People walked past. Cars drove past. Nobody stopped.
A couple found him and couldn't look away. They brought him to us, and then went further — fundraising over $1,000 so far to cover his medical bills. Strangers who became angels.
Today, Indy is stable. He's at the vet. He's being rehabilitated. And we're building him a wheelchair so he can move again — not by dragging himself through the dirt, but rolling through the yard with his head up and his tail going.
This is what Bali Paws Rescue does. The dogs nobody else will touch. The ones with broken backs and blood on the pavement. We pick them up. We put them back together. And we never, ever look the other way.
Pia was one of three sisters — Pia, Tia, and Lia — found dumped and abandoned. A friend discovered the tiny puppies and reached out to Ken for help. And Ken? He never refuses puppies or handicapped dogs. That's just who he is.
So he took all three. Pia is the bold one — first to investigate a new toy, first to greet you at the gate, first to steal her sister's food when she thinks nobody's watching. A total character with a personality bigger than she is.
Pia is healthy, vaccinated, and absolutely ready for her forever home. She'd do best with another dog for company — ideally Tia, but we understand if you can only take one.
Ringo was just 3 days old when he was rescued — along with his brothers, sisters, and their mother — and brought to Bali Paws Rescue.
He's grown up at the shelter from day one, surrounded by love and the other dogs. Ringo is playful, confident, and full of energy — the kind of puppy who makes everyone smile the moment he bounces over.
Ringo is healthy, vaccinated, and ready for his forever home. He'd love a family with space to run and plenty of attention to give.
Mitsy was hiding in a warung, starving and scared, with no one knowing where she came from. One day, Ken was walking by and she started barking at him. Not aggressive — more like she was calling out. Like she knew he was the one who would help.
He took her home that day. She turned out to be a wonderful dog — gentle, grateful, full of quiet love.
Now at 14 years old and 95% blind, Mitsy can only tell the difference between light and dark. The world is mostly shadows now. But every single morning, when the sun comes through the shelter and hits that warm patch on the floor, Mitsy finds it. Lies down right in it. And that tail starts going.
This is what our sanctuary program is for. Not every dog gets adopted. Not every dog gets a fairy-tale ending. But every dog deserves to feel the sun on their face, a full belly, and gentle hands. That's what we give Mitsy. Every day.
In November 2023, Sugar was hit by a motorbike and thrown onto the street. A local street feeder found him screaming in pain and rushed him to the vet.
Ken knew right away — this dog was handicapped. And his response? “Of course I'll take him.” That's just how Ken operates. The harder the case, the faster he says yes.
By 2024, Sugar's injured leg was dragging and causing him constant pain. The decision was made to amputate — and it was the best thing that ever happened to him. Freed from that damaged leg, Sugar came alive.
Today, Sugar is doing great. Three legs, zero complaints. He runs, he plays, he greets every visitor like they're the most important person in the world. He doesn't know he's supposed to be limited. Nobody told him, and nobody plans to.
Every program exists because a dog needed it to survive. Here's how we make a difference, every single day.
Every day, we feed over 40 street dogs across our area of Bali who have no one else looking out for them. Local resorts and restaurants — including Nanuk in Pecatu — donate food, and we make sure it reaches the dogs who need it most. No dog in our area goes hungry.
Our rehoming program matches rescued dogs with loving forever families. Every dog is vetted, vaccinated, and nursed back to health before they meet their new people. We follow up to make sure every match is a good one. The goal is always a happy home.
For senior and handicapped dogs who may never find a traditional home, our sanctuary provides permanent, loving care. Custom carts for paralyzed dogs. No stairs. Soft beds. Gentle hands. Dignity and comfort for the rest of their lives. Our oldest resident is 14.

Right now, our dogs have a roof over their heads at our current shelter in Jimbaran. But we're building something bigger — a brand new sanctuary in Jembrana, just 250 meters from the beach, with proper buildings, dedicated medical space, and room for even more rescues.
The land is secured. The plans are ready. Now we need to build it. Every contribution to our building fund gets us one step closer to opening the doors and giving these dogs the home they truly deserve.
Once the new shelter is complete, volunteers will be able to stay on-site and help with the dogs hands-on. Real rescue work — feeding, walking, socializing, medical care. And the beach is a 3-minute walk.
